Lawrence, KS, October 25, 2023– eXplore Lawrence, the tourism bureau for Lawrence, Kansas, is pleased to announce Allison Calvin has joined the team as the Director of Marketing and Communications.
The Marketing and Communications team plays a pivotal role in driving the growth of Lawrence’s tourism section, expanding our visitor base by leveraging innovative and inclusive marketing and communications strategies. This position is responsible for managing the Unmistakably Lawrence Brand Identity, overseeing cutting-edge digital marketing initiatives, leading a dynamic team of marketing and visitors center staff, and continuing to engage with diverse audiences through a variety of marketing sectors.
Allison joins the eXplore Lawrence team from the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, Convention, and Visitors Bureau team, where she has been the Destination Services Manager since 2016. In addition to implementing all of Olathe’s tourism marketing and content, Calvin managed Downtown Olathe Fourth Fridays, serviced events, corporate clients, and tournaments in Olathe. Before Olathe, Calvin worked for Visit Overland Park and House of Travel in Miami, Florida. She also currently serves on the Travel Industry Association of Kansas Board of Directors, Northeast Kansas Tourism Association Board of Directors, and a variety of leadership roles in the tourism industry.
Allison holds a distinguished degree in Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality Management, earned at Johnson & Wales University (FL). Throughout her academic journey, she discovered a passion and talent for transforming destination assets into compelling narratives and captivating marketing campaigns. Her passion for the art of storytelling converged with data-driven precision, culminating in the development of highly successful marketing strategies.
Allison lives in Overland Park, with her husband, Blake. They have two children, Brody who is five, and Rory who is one. They enjoy all things KU Athletics, trying new food and coffee in Lawrence, and traveling.
