Kick off the holiday season in the heart of the city!
The holidays come alive in Downtown Lawrence at the Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Santa Rescue on Friday, November 25 starting at 5:30 PM.
The ceremony will begin with a countdown and lighting of the Downtown lights by Mayor Shipley and Hank Booth. Afterward, look to the roof of Weaver's Department Store for a Santa sighting! No worries, Lawrence Douglas County Fire & Medical will be there with a ladder fire truck to rescue Santa from the rooftop. The evening will be complete with a holiday music performance by the Cantemos Youth Chorale.
Don't forget to have your kiddos write their letters to Santa beforehand; they will be collected at this year's event! Tip: include a return address if you want to receive a personal response.
