Park(ing) Day
September 27, 2024 | 4-9 PM
Multistudio and Hoke Ley Architects are bringing Park(ing) Day back to downtown Lawrence! This year's event will be held on September 27th, the final Friday of the month, from 4-9 PM with installations placed in select parallel parking spaces in the downtown corridor. The event is a collaboration between the City of Lawrence along with downtown businesses, organizations, and other community partners.
Park(ing)Day is an annual global event aimed at engaging the public and reclaiming public space for the people. Started in 2006 by the San Francisco creative-collective, ReBar, participants are challenged to explore the full dimensions of urban social ecology, experimental design, and creative vision in the humble parking spot. Park(ing)Day is a combination of parks and recreation, arts, architecture and design, and social activism, where the public is then invited and encouraged to interact with the various temporary installations.
