Lawrence Music Alliance launches month-long series of events to support local music economy with Music Business Month
Lawrence, KS — The Lawrence Music Alliance (LMA) is proud to announce March as Music Business Month, a citywide initiative dedicated to empowering local musicians, industry professionals, and creatives with the tools and connections they need to thrive. Throughout March, LMA will host a series of workshops, webinars, networking events, and mentorship opportunities, all aimed at fostering a stronger and more sustainable music ecosystem in Lawrence.
"Musicians are small business owners, and our goal is to provide the resources and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s music industry," says Nick Carswell, LMA Director. "Music Business Month is all about strengthening the local music economy, connecting artists with industry experts, and ensuring that music remains a vital part of our community."

According to the Lawrence Music Census, the music ecosystem in Lawrence generates $13M in economic activity, supporting more than 6,500 live music events annually. We export music across our region with 9,663 performances outside of Lawrence, and Lawrence creatives spend an average of $4,435 on music expenses annually.
However, average gig pay is low at $101 and 63% of respondents are worried about stagnant pay rates. Only 1 in 4 musicians and businesses have received financial support of any kind and 82% desired audience development tools.
