Lawrence, KS, August 21, 2023– eXplore Lawrence, the tourism bureau for Lawrence, Kansas, is pleased to announce Ruth DeWitt has joined the Sales and Services team at eXplore Lawrence.
The Sales and Services team sells Lawrence as a national-level destination for meetings, groups, conferences, reunions, and sports markets while providing excellent service. In this role, Ruth is responsible for booking meetings, events, sporting events, and other group travel to Lawrence. This position serves as a liaison between eXplore Lawrence and its partners, venues, attractions, and stakeholders.
Ruth joins eXplore Lawrence from the KU School of Public Affairs and Administration, where she served as the marketing and communications manager since 2017. In addition to promoting the work of the faculty and accomplishments of the School’s alumni, she planned and coordinated events and conferences hosted by the School. Prior to KU, Ruth worked on the marketing team at the Lawrence Arts Center and was part of the group that launched the inaugural Free State Festival.
After moving here in 2005, Ruth quickly developed an affection for Lawrence and all it has to offer residents and visitors alike. In her previous roles, she always enjoyed bringing groups to Lawrence, which makes this new challenge particularly exciting for her. “I’m really looking forward to helping make Lawrence a meeting, conference, and sporting event destination and positively impacting our local economy.”
Ruth lives in Lawrence with her husband, Cal, who can often be seen downtown with their 14-year-old dachshund. They have two sons, Calvin, who’s serving in the Peace Corps in The Gambia, Africa, and Henry, who is starting vet school at Kansas State.
