Why Lawrence? Mona at "Restoration" Mural

Meet Mona Cliff. She's a multidisciplinary visual artist who explores the subject of contemporary Native American identity and culture through her use of traditional Native crafting methods such as seed bead embroidery and fabric applique. Listen as she gives her "Why Lawrence" in front of the "Restoration" Mural that she helped create.

"Restoration" is a mural painted by teen artists from VanGo Inc. - an arts-based social service agency in Lawrence. Mona was asked to help create the blueprint for the mural that signifies the history and heritage of the area surrounding the mural, which sits on a walking path near the Baker Wetlands and Haskell Indian Nations University. Mona's contributions to the mural include the Osage ribbon work design on the top and bottom to commemorate the Osage Nation who historically inhabited the land.
