Come on Lawrence, you’ve still got one more round left in ya! I know it’s been a wild summer of street parties thanks to our world cup visitors. But August still has a handful of fun activities left, some family friendly gigs. Here’s a look at our Hometown Happenings for August. Adult Swim Night #3
Lawrence Outdoor Aquatic Center | August 5
These events have been A HIT in Lawrence over the last couple of years. The town is abuzz with opportunities to hit the pool without kids belly flopping off the diving boards and splashing around. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., adults 18 and over can enjoy some fun, music, concessions, and alcoholic beverages.
Eudora Community Paddle
On the Kansas River | August 8
This is another chance to connect with nature before the seasons change. Friends of the Kaw is joining up with Eudora Parks and Rec to host this community paddle, which runs on the Kansas River from Eudora to De Soto. There will be an educational element on a sandbar. This is a kayaking trip, so BYOB (bring your own BOAT), or rent one of theirs.
The Dead Bettys
Liberty Hall | August 15
This is becoming an annual tradition we love because it brings a spark to what is typically a very slow time of the year. As summer winds down, the temperature rises, and kids start dragging their feet back to school, there’s one more summer blowout to take part in. The Dead Bettys, who we would argue is one of Lawrence’s biggest party band, will be kicking off their annual Liberty Hall fundraiser for the Lawrence Humane Society. Bring your dancing shoes, they’ll be bringing ska flair to pop favorites (and a little birdie told us they have a host of new songs under their belt). Bring the kids! This is a family friendly event.
