Lawrence, we've had a nice little reset in August. Now, it's time to kick it into gear. September brings a new season of exciting live music, and this one has a bit of a theme. We're noticing a lot of rowdy women hitting the stage this month. Some of it is very NSFW, but there's still plenty to peruse for our mild-mannered friends. Here are some of the big shows coming to town this month.
Kirstie Lynn / Primrose Junction
The Replay | September 6
Kirstie Lynn, you have our attention. We love a good rowdy country girl, and Kirstie is bursting onto the local scene. She's a classically trained soprano, so expect her to hit some high notes. She'll be bringing her poetic brand of folk and country to the Replay for this early show with Primrose Junction. Be sure to check out her latest track, "Blazing Prairie Star."
Peaches
Liberty Hall | September 10
This one's for you, early 2000's music fans. It's also for the modern day music fan. Peaches is for everyone (except children, because this is the most sexually explicit show you'll ever see in your life).
If you love art that really takes a risk, this legendary electroclash artist is for you. Peaches is known for throbbing dance hits, endless sexual references, and performance art unlike anything you've ever seen. Expect a lot of props, costumes, and an artist who isn't afraid to thrust herself into the audience to canoodle with fans. The "No Lube So Rude" tour will be bringing Peaches to corners of the country she doesn't often get to (it's been a couple of decades since her last run here with the legendary SSION). This is not a show to be missed.

The Fretliners
Lucia | September 10
Man, we really had our fill of bluegrass this summer. Between Kaw River Roots Fest and FidPick, we're already missing it. Don't fret, this is Lawrence! There's always good bluegrass coming through.
The Fretliners will be coming through Lawrence (one of our town's bluegrass destinations) with their folky harmonies in the middle of a hefty tour that takes them through December. The Colorado band will bring nostalgic themes as the seasons change, providing the perfect backdrop as we watch the sunflowers bloom and eagerly await fall.

Rum Jungle
The Bottleneck | September 22
There's one thing we always try to stress to local music fans: if a band is coming from overseas, don't skip it! Australian rockers Rum Jungle have been making waves both here in the U.S. and abroad for their live shows, sharp songwriting, and feel-good indie vibes. They'll be here touring in support of their recently released Marginalia, which is full of easy-to-love guitar licks and emotional lyrics. For fans of the band, this album goes a little deeper, intellectually. Indie rock is making a big comeback in live music, and Rum Jungle is at the forefront.

Scene Queen: Metalicious
The Granada | September 23
If you've never heard the word "bimbocore," this is your introduction. Scene Queen, the moniker for Hannah Rose Collins, will be bringing her Metalicious tour to the Granada this month. She's known for coining the term "Bimbocore," which can best be described as metal with hyper feminist themes. Her Spotify bio says "I BELIEVE IN BIMBOCORE AND BEING MEAN TO MEN IN BANDS." This one's for the gals who have had enough.
Expect to see a lot of pink at this show. Every single track of hers has fairly explicit (and sometimes violent) lyrics, otherwise we'd share a track here. Scene Queen is a sort of trojan horse. You may see her dressed like a cutesy pop star in head-to-toe pink fringe and sequins, but what you'll actually get is a vicious and growling beast ready to unleash terror.
